As COVID-19 cases swept the nation in the early stages of the pandemic, the University of Texas at Austin swiftly initiated the development of a contact-tracing app: Protect Texas Together. Intended for use by all UT Austin members, the goal was to help prevent the spread of COVID as UT Austin opened its campus.
With the impending pandemic, UT Austin began the Protect Texas Together app by jumping straight into development. UT's dev team initially created mockups of the app, but a summer UX team was pulled in after realizing more testing needed to be conducted before launching. The summer UX team conducted a heuristic evaluation of the dev team's mockups and generated a second set of mockups. Our team was brought on in August to do another round of user testing and analysis on the second set of mockups.
From August through November our team completed a competitive analysis, a heuristic evaluation on the dev mockups, user interviews on the UX mockups, and finally presented our findings/recommendations to UT Austin's Protect Texas Together team.
